To share Win 7 folder contents via a WorkGroup I had to add "EveryOne" to permission list in security - is that wrong?
Hi; For my home network (which includes some XP machines - not discussed below) I meticulously followed the instructions here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/sharing-files-and-printers-with-different-versions-of-windows but could not access the shared folders on other Win7 machines until (after several days of mucking about) I added "EveryOne" to "Group or user names:" in the Security tab via: right click folder/directoryclick propertiestab securitybutton "Edit..."button "Add..."button "Advanced..."button "Find Now"select "Everyone" (from the very long list)OK, OK, Apply etc. Not exactly obvious. Was this necessary or a security hole? If necessary why is it not documented?

1. In workgroup the security is local to every computer. This means that there is every user defined in local and remote computers if this user is to be authorized to reach remote shared resources. 2. Everyone is the lowest security setting and possible security hole that you have established in your system. 3. Remember that homegroup requires IPv6 enabled 4. If you need higher security, consider using Active Directory (which requires at least one server) Regards Milos
